Aesthetic value of solidwaste

In Environmental Science, 'aesthetic value' plays an important role. Environmental pollution lowers aesthetic value of nature and man made environment. If you can not see beautiful mountains in Nepal, you blame it to air pollution or to climate change. Similarly, people in Kathmandu blame solidwaste for tourist's flow decline. It is true that solidwaste is not collected regularly from the streets of city. This has affected the health of people, city environment and economy of city people. Besides these, how solidwaste affects the aesthetic value can be seen from the following two pictures. The first picture is with the solidwaste openly dumped in the street and second is just after the collection of same waste. How do you feel with and without the waste?

Nepal as it is through some pictures

I don't know when we will develop our country in terms of facilities, infrastructure and behavior but I have not seen any sign of change till now. I have seen the changes in infrastructure, i.e., many buildings are being erected, roads are dug and wires were pulled. How managed and in a systematic way were these activities are taking place is always a question. While looking the Kathmandu, unplanned buildings, unmanaged traffic, insufficient water supply, uncollected solidwaste and dust are always the issues discussed. These issues are not addressed by local or national bodies hence the problems are increasing along with the increase of population. Look some of the pictures here. How unplanned is the city? How are the telephone, television, and electric cables are pulled? What is the nutritional value of the fruits exposed to sun for whole day and sold in open roadside stalls. In spite of all these things, white mountains and blue sky are always considered as the natural beauty of the city.

Kids in nature king in palace

Last week, I got an opportunity to visit different Norwegian kindergardens, Barnehage (in Norwegian). According to them, Norwegian love to be out and learn in nature. One of the Barnehage was at the middle of forest with wind and solar energy as source of energy, natural products used to construct hut, playing items (merry go as in third picture), learning environment. Even in extreme cold, nursery children enjoy in the Nature Barnehage. The upper two pictures are of Royal palace and Parliament house in Oslo.

Dumping site to recreational park

Long island (Langøyene in Norwegian) is a summer destination for picnic, swimming, fishing and camping. Take a ferry from Oslo (near to DFDS area) and reach the place in about 15 minutes. You may not suspect that the island was once used for dumping of waste. The island does not have any sign of dumped waste due to green park, beach and other facilities for summer outings. You can see Oslo city from Langøyene in first picture.
