Freezing cold and snow

The winter of the year 2007 has started in Norway. The temperature is going down slowly and it has reached around -5C. This is not a very low temperature as it may go up to -25C, where I live. This is south of Oslo, warmer and brighter than Northern Norway. The area in the picture, around the horse, was frozen, whitish in color but not snow. The pond has completely frozen for the first time of this year. The first snow of the season is seen in the street. However, this year, the temperature went down even before snow.

Not of the blog theme

I was astonished by this photo (banner) before reading the news text. I have seen similar banner at the same space with countdown numbers earlier. When I saw this banner without number, I feel same '?' to our future. This could be the future of not only election but of our self and our country.

The banner is taken from The Himalayan Times News paper web site (http://www.thehimalayantimes.com/)

Concert and anniversary celebration

Last week there was a celebration of university anniversary. All the university students and staffs gathered for a live concert and dinner. The celebration place before and after the people.

Seasonal change

Season change is a natural phenomenon. Turning green leaves into red, yellow, and brown is a sign of fall season. I don't know why this season is called fall but I can see a lots of leaves falling from plants. Plants from green to different colours look nice and beautiful but dry leaves in ground does not give a pleasant environment like in these pictures.

Bitter beer, sweet jeri and rice pudding

Sweet jeri in Norway was something special. Special than making rice pudding or drinking beer. Drinking beer is not special at all but it is special in Norway for students from other countries. It is not due to unavailability but due to cost. Beer or alcoholic drinks and tobacco products are too expensive in Norway. Sweet jeri are made by Indians or Pakistani living in Oslo, Norway. An empty beer bottle is lying on opener like a pose for advertisement. Cation: Do not drive after alcohol no matter its bicycle or motercycle or car.

Sanatan Temple in Norway

This Saturday, I could visit a Hindu temple, Sanatan Mandir in Oslo, Norway. I was happy to see people celebrating Krishna Asthami with 'Bhajan' and other stories. I heard that similar temples are in other cities but never been there.

Election style in Norway

Norway is having local election this month. Due to my language problem, I could not understand more on it but I was surprised when a leader handover me red roses at a train station. I came to know that the pamphlet was of the party and red rose was their election symbol. Wow! what a good idea of election campaigning! I also heard that people can cast their vote electronically through their computer and not on a day but between the dates provided by the election commission. Even non-Norwegians living in the country for more than three years can also cast their votes. Today, 10th Sept. 2007 is the last day of casting votes.

Under water tunnel

Few days back, I could go under sea water in Oslo area. It was not a swimming but a drive through Oslo FJordtunnelen, in Drammen. The tunnel was 7.2KM long and first went down with a 7% slope till it reached the bottom of the bed rock. Then it again climb up with the same slope. The road tax for the pass cost NOK 55. Last picture is of a nice car.

Kids in nature king in palace

Last week, I got an opportunity to visit different Norwegian kindergardens, Barnehage (in Norwegian). According to them, Norwegian love to be out and learn in nature. One of the Barnehage was at the middle of forest with wind and solar energy as source of energy, natural products used to construct hut, playing items (merry go as in third picture), learning environment. Even in extreme cold, nursery children enjoy in the Nature Barnehage. The upper two pictures are of Royal palace and Parliament house in Oslo.

Vigeland park

This time while visiting vigeland park, I could see flower bloom and green floors. Similarly, I could capture the ski jump pond at holmenkollen. The pond gets frozen during winter.

Norway - unique on its own

Recent news says that Norway is the cleanest country after Finland. It is not clean without cleaning. You can see the second picture which is loading the trash from one of the streets at Oslo. Tourists are enjoying buggy ride even in these modern days (first picture), which may be clean in terms of air pollution emitted by vehicles but what about the animal dung in street if not cleaned?. Oslo is unique in the sense that it has freezing temperatures but offers tropical foods. One can even taste mango fruit (third picture). Third picture is the area of Oslo university college.

Mid night sun set and moon rise

Few weeks back, I was in Fredrikstad, Norway. The place is in southern Norway and popular for many small islands, fishing, boating and summer picnic. Many people are seen camping in islands for weeks and moving to other places. We enjoyed the day in a boat, fishing, having barbecue in one of the island, watching midnight sun set, and full moon rise as soon as sun sets. The sunsets and moon rise pictures are in a difference of half an hour. Perfect natural beauty one can experience in life time.

Nepali momo in Norway

This week we could steam momo. Buff momo is the best momo for Nepalese taste but we could only steam lamb, chicken, and pork momo due to food restrictions of each friend. Momo making is a time consuming job but tasty momo at the end really makes you happy. Enjoy!

Dumping site to recreational park

Long island (Langøyene in Norwegian) is a summer destination for picnic, swimming, fishing and camping. Take a ferry from Oslo (near to DFDS area) and reach the place in about 15 minutes. You may not suspect that the island was once used for dumping of waste. The island does not have any sign of dumped waste due to green park, beach and other facilities for summer outings. You can see Oslo city from Langøyene in first picture.

Nepali School Norwegian flag

More than fifty Nepalese are in Aas, one of a Norwegian city near to Oslo. Most of them are associated with Norwegian University of Life Sciences doing different degree courses. While staying in student apartments, one can see the pentagon student hostel monument (second picture) and parking area for students. Nepali student's children also study in Norway and in the picture, they are performing Nepali dance during their graduation day. The fourth picture is of Norway flag representing the culture, place and land proving opportunity for many Nepalese.
